How to file a complaint with Apple
Category: Tech & Software
This page lists the official complaint channels for Apple and, if those channels don't resolve your issue, the regulators that handle complaints about companies in this industry.
Step 1 — File the complaint with Apple directly
Most regulators want to see that you tried to resolve the issue with the company first. Use the official channels below.
- Customer service / contact: Apple Contact Page
- Who you are (account number, order number, member ID).
- What happened (dates, what you were told, what was supposed to happen).
- What you've already done (prior support contacts, ticket numbers, dates).
- What you want (specific outcome — refund, repair, account correction, etc).
- A deadline (e.g., "Please respond within 14 days or I will escalate to Federal Trade Commission (FTC).").
Step 2 — Document everything
- Save copies of every message you send and receive, including chat transcripts.
- Note the date, time, and name of every customer service rep you speak with.
- Get a ticket number for every contact and record it.
- Take screenshots of any error messages, account states, or relevant in-app information.
This documentation is what regulators and arbitrators rely on. Without it, your complaint is much harder to act on.
Step 3 — Escalate to a regulator if the company doesn't resolve it
Hardware, software, and services company. FTC and state AGs apply.
Regulators that handle complaints about Apple:
| Regulator | What they handle | File a complaint |
|---|---|---|
| Federal Trade Commission (FTC) | Fraud, scams, identity theft, unfair business practices, deceptive advertising, do-not-call violations. | Official page |
| State Attorney General | Almost any consumer dispute with a business operating in your state. Each state's AG office runs a consumer protection division. | Official page |
| Better Business Bureau (BBB) | Almost any business, US and Canada. Mediation rather than enforcement. | Official page |
Most regulators forward complaints to the company and require a response. Companies frequently resolve issues at this stage that they refused to resolve through customer service.
